Cleveland left the law firm for what political position?

In 1870, Cleveland accepted the Democratic nomination for sheriff of Erie County and won the position. He had to perform a variety of duties, including serving as executioner. Twice, he pulled the lever that killed convicted murderers. Detractors would later deride him as “The Buffalo Hangman.”
