Grover Cleveland

Early Career

What career did Grover first choose?

He initially thought about following in his father’s footsteps to the ministry. However, he really wanted to practice law. He borrowed money from a neighbor, Ingham Townsend, who always admired young Grover, to go out west. Many years later he repaid the loan with interest and thanked Townsend for her generosity.
