President Adams, impressed by Harrison’s performance as secretary of the Northwest Territory, appointed him governor of the territory of Indiana. This territory was a massive land area that consists of modern day Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. He served in this capacity under several presidents for a dozen years.
