When did Harding become a U.S. senator? |
Harding defeated Democrat Timothy Hogan, state attorney general of Ohio, and Progressive candidate Arthur L. Garford to win a seat in the U.S. Senate in 1914. He served in the Senate until he became president of the United States. Harding was the first sitting U.S. senator to be elected president, followed many years later by John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama.
