Whom did Hoover defeat to win the Republican nomination?

Hoover dominated the Republican convention in Kansas City, garnering 837 votes on the first ballot. Governor Frank Lowden of Illinois and Senator Charles Curtis of Kansas were the next closest with 72 and 64 votes respectively. Hoover had the backing of former president Theodore Roosevelt and Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon.
