Van Buren defeated a host of Whig candidates, including William Henry Harrison, Hugh Lawson White, Daniel Webster, and Willie Person Mangum. Van Buren received 170 electoral votes; 70 went to Harrison, 26 to White, 14 to Webster, and 11 to Mangum.
