Do you really hear the ocean when you hold a seashell to your ear? |
Although the sounds heard in a seashell are reminiscent of hearing the ocean, in reality they are ambient, soft sounds that have been resonated and thereby amplified by the seashell’s cavity. The extreme sensitivity of the human ear to sound is illustrated by the seashell resonance effect.
