Which island region has the greatest concentration of active volcanoes?

In the early 1990s 1,133 seamounts (submerged mountains) and volcanic cones were discovered in and around Easter Island. Many of the volcanoes rise more than a mile above the ocean floor. Some are close to 7,000 feet (2,134 meters) tall, although their peaks are still 2,500 to 5,000 feet (760 to 1,500 meters) below the surface of the sea.
