Who was Cleveland Abbe?

Cleveland Abbe (1838–1916), nicknamed the “Father of the Weather Bureau,” was appointed director of the Cincinnati observatory in 1868. The Weather Bulletin of the Cincinnati Observatory began including a three-day weather forecast on September 22, 1869 prepared by forecaster Cleveland Abbe. In January 1871, Abbe was appointed as a civilian assistant in the National Weather Bureau where he continued to prepare weather reports and forecasts.
