Stormy Weather

What do many scholars believe caused the flood that Noah and his family survived in the Bible?

Some archeologists believe that, sometime between the years 5400 B.C.E. and 5200 B.C.E., the Euphrates River flooded the surrounding valley, covering an area of about 40,000 square miles (about 104,000 square kilometers). Although this flood did not encompass the globe, to those living in the area it certainly would have seemed like the end of the world and it could have inspired the well-known biblical story.
