No. People have been searching for years for the Ark of the Covenant. No one knows for sure at what point it disappeared or was destroyed, but the Bible provides a couple of hints. In I Kings 14:25 (NRSV), “King Shishak of Egypt came up against Jerusalem; he took away the treasures of the king’s house.” This may or may not have included the Ark of the Covenant. Even if it did include the Ark, there is the possibility that at some later point it was restored. Another possibility is seen in the deuterocanonical book II Maccabees 2:4–8: “It was also in the same document that the prophet, having received an oracle, ordered that the tent and the ark should follow with him, and that he went out to the mountain where Moses had gone up and had seen the inheritance of God. Jeremiah came and found a cave dwelling, and he brought there the tent and the ark and the altar of incense, then he sealed up the entrance. Some of those who followed him came up intending to mark the way, but could not find it.”
