Besides nativity scenes, what other collectibles are related to the Bible? |
People love things that belonged to famous people, especially Elvis Presley. In 2012, a British collector put his Elvis memorabilia up for auction. One of the items that sold was Presley’s Bible, given to him in 1957 during his first Christmas at his Memphis home, Graceland. Presley read this particular Bible until his death in 1977. Notes in his handwriting fill the margins. Some passages are underlined. Originally, it was thought that Presley’s Bible would sell for around $40,000. It actually sold for £59,000—roughly $95,000—to an anonymous buyer. Other items that sold included a pair of Elvis’ shoes, and one of his movie contracts. A pair of his stained underwear did not sell.
In June 2013, a Bible that Albert Einstein gifted to an American friend sold at a New York City auction for $68,500. Einstein wrote in the Bible that the book “is a great source of wisdom and consolation and should be read frequently.”
