Richard M. Nixon

Early Career

What was his military career?

Nixon joined the navy in August 1942. Even though he was a Quaker, Nixon decided to support his country in the war effort. He was sent to Iowa, California, and then to the South Pacific Combat Air Transport Command in New Caledonia. He later served in Alameda, California, and then Philadelphia. While he never saw any combat action, he performed his administrative duties quite well, rising to the level of lieutenant commander.
